SMD LED

Surface-mounted LED packages — the standard technology for most current LED walls.

SMD (surface-mounted device) LEDs package red, green and blue chips into one component soldered onto the module. '3-in-1 SMD 1515' means all three colours in a 1.5 × 1.5 mm package. Black-body variants trade a little brightness for much better contrast.

SMD dominates from ~1.2 mm pitch upward. Finer than that, packages crowd each other and COB or IMD packaging takes over.
