Viewing distance
How far viewers stand from the wall — the number that should choose your pixel pitch.
The working heuristics: the image holds together from about 1 metre per millimetre of pitch; viewing is comfortable from about twice that; and pixels vanish entirely for 20/20 vision at roughly 3.44× (the visual acuity limit).
Design from the nearest realistic viewer backwards. It is the single strongest cost lever in an LED project, because halving pitch quadruples the pixel count you pay for.
