LED wall resolution calculator

Size and pixel pitch in, resolution out — total pixels, density, and whether the wall clears Full HD or 4K natively.

Resolution

1,600 × 800 px

Below Full-HD width

Total pixels

1,280,000

Pixel density

160,000 px/m²

The formula

pixels wide = wall width ÷ pitch and pixels high = wall height ÷ pitch (same units — mm ÷ mm).

density = (1000 ÷ pitch mm)² pixels per square metre.

Worked example

A 4 m × 2 m wall at 2.5 mm pitch:

4000 ÷ 2.5 = 1600 px wide · 2000 ÷ 2.5 = 800 px high · 1,280,000 total pixels at 160,000 px/m².

That sits between Full HD and 4K width — content at 1920 × 1080 downscales slightly, which reads perfectly at normal distances.

Frequently asked

How many pixels does my LED wall need for 4K?
4K/UHD is 3840 × 2160. Divide 3840 by your wall width in pixels: a 2.5 mm wall needs to be 9.6 m wide to be natively 4K, a 1.2 mm wall only 4.6 m. Most walls run below source resolution and scale — which is fine.
Is more resolution always better?
No — resolution beyond what viewers can resolve at their distance is invisible and expensive. Choose pitch from viewing distance first, then let resolution follow from the wall size.
What is pixel density?
Pixels per square metre: (1000 ÷ pitch in mm)². A 2.5 mm wall carries 160,000 px/m²; a 1.25 mm wall four times that. It is the cleanest way to compare pitches independent of wall size.
Why doesn't my wall hit the exact resolution I planned?
Walls are built from whole cabinets, so the real resolution is the cabinet grid times the cabinet's pixels. The full wikiLED calculator resolves your target to the nearest buildable grid and shows the difference.
